Founded in 1990, My Grandma’s of New England ® is known as the “World’s Most Critically Acclaimed Coffee Cake”. Located at 1636 Hyde Park Avenue in Boston, Massachusetts, My Grandma’s manufactures the original (and the best) Cinnamon Walnut Coffee Cake.

Company Products

My Grandma’s of New England ® specializes in only one product – world class, gourmet coffee cakes. My Grandma’s offers a product that is so reminiscent of a home-baked coffee cake that many serve our cake and claim it as “their own.” There is no greater compliment.

Our cakes are hand mixed and baked in rack ovens. Our cakes contain no artificial flavors, artificial colors, or artificial preservatives. They are also free of trans fats and certified Kosher under Orthodox supervision. We use only the freshest and best ingredients on the market – and it shows. We never compromise quality.

My Grandma’s offers several flavors of coffee cake in three sizes, under the My Grandma’s label and several private labels. We also offer large, pre-sliced coffee cakes for commercial resale in bakeries, cafes and specialty shops, and as a convenience to our mail order customers.

Company History

There really was a Grandma! Bob Katz and his father, Ed, purchased the My Grandma’s business in 1993 from the grandson of the real grandma. The business was built on her family recipe and Bob and Ed’s vision of future unlimited potential.

In their first year of ownership, 3 flavors were added, packaging was improved, corporate accounts were negotiated, and a trademark approval for the company name was granted. In 1994, the company moved to a larger facility in Dedham, MA and established a shipping department which enabled the company to fill the growing demand for local wholesale distribution and mail order. Glowing testimonials from The New York Times, USA Today, the Boston Globe, and the Chicago Sun-Times, coupled with rampant word of mouth, bolstered the company’s mail order business and led to the opening of several high profile and prestigious accounts. By 1996, yearly sales had reached the $1 million mark.

In 1997, My Grandma’s introduced their Website and had their first presentation on QVC. The company grew so quickly that a move to a larger and more modern facility was necessitated and accomplished later that year. In the year 2000, sales had nearly tripled what they had been in 1997. During the next several years, My Grandma’s formed relationships with numerous distributors and wholesalers and introduced its product on a much more national level by adding a fundraising program, increasing the product’s exposure at national-level food shows, offering a private labeling program, and enhancing their e-commerce operations. The company continues to invest heavily in its personnel and technology and the company actively recruits and retains a diverse work force. The company is committed to remaining an inner city business.

Our cakes have been selected by QVC and QVC.com as a top-rated customer pick for the years 2010 - 2015.

Our product is currently nominated "Best Cake" during the 2017 QVC Customer Choice Food Awards.

Our products were voted "Favorite Top Rated Customer Food" and nominated for "Best Cake" during the 2015 QVC Customer Choice Food Awards.

Our products were voted "Best Cake" and nominated for "Best Dessert to Send as a Gift" during the 2014 QVC Customer Choice Food Awards.

Our products were voted "Best Cake" and "Best Top Rated Food" during the 2013 QVC Customer Choice Food Awards.

Our cake was selected as a Top Holiday Gift Choice by "People Magazine".

Our company and products were featured on Food Network’s "Roker on the Road".
